We use Diamond Extreme Athlete and it works well. It keeps meat on the bones and keeps them looking good. You can tell when somebody is feeding cheap dogfood by the dog's coat. Diamond keeps the coat looking healthy, not dull and dry. It is a little bit more expensive, but our dogs work their hardest, so I figure they deserve good dog food.

We started our pups on the small breed Diamond Naturals puppy mixed with lamb milk replacer we keep for our sheep (It was getting old and would go stale before long). We moved them to the large breed Diamond Naturals puppy when they could handle the size. Once we had them on completely dry food we moved them to the Diamond Extreme Athlete, which is what our adults get this time of year. I'd consider the 27/15 a minimum for pups this time of year in our climate. Diamond Extreme Athlete runs about 68 cents a pound around here. If you look at calories per dollar, or protein per dollar at 32/25 it's hard to beat. There are comparable other foods out there, but Diamond Extreme Athlete is available in a lot more places than some of the others. Most good feed stores carry Diamond Naturals. Our adult dogs are shiny and sleek, and the dam has put on at least 5 pounds since just after the litter arrived, even though she was nursing. A big thing with us is that the Diamond Naturals does not have corn in it, and grain is not one of the top few ingredients.
