I know we always carry a backpack... Water, TP, first aid kit, a kit to start fires in the winter, flashlight and extra batteries, vet wrap. That is about it.

Naturally as I get older and the hills get steeper I have been forced to reduce my pack to only the necessities  . I carry my vidoe camera, photo camera, flashlights, extra batteries, handheld radio, pitch sticks and matches, extra socks, small rope.

We do not live in alaska where there is no human existance for days so over night stays are highly unlikely.

I generally leave most of the first aid items in the Jeep

but I always take a roll of vet wrap, my pocket knife, and some antihistmines and aspirin with me. Antihistamines will buy some time in the event of snake bite for either you or the hound. They also minimize the effects of bee stings. Vet wrap is useful for all sorts of things, especially sprained ankles.
Back in the Jeep, the kit contains styptic powder, acepromazine (dog sedative), pliers (for porky quills), super glue (for temporarily closing flaps of skin over large wounds), triple antibioltic cream, fat Swiss Army knife with tweezers and magnifying glass, iodine, a gallon of water and a dog bowl that can couble as a basin if I need to clean an open wound. I keep my hunting supplies in a crate with assorted all-purpose back-up supplies like a complete change of clothes for me, spare magnets for the collars, a towel, a rain slicker, bungee cords, a spare compass, spare batteries, flashlight, spare bulbs for the coon light, etc. I have weak knees, so I keep extra ace bandages in with the hunting supplies too. Sometimes, at hound events, I feel like the school nurse! Most of that stuff comes in handy quite frequently.
