what temperature shuts down the coons

Post by coloradoultramag »

It was around 0 to below 0 (the lows) for the last month so I don't think they were out much. Now the highs are mid 30's lows are high teens. Do you think they are out now, these are more normal cold temperatures for my region. Last month was extremely cold. I think these current temps. coons should be be out and about.

I was wondering if there is a certain temp when the coons stop moving much. Any help would be great.

thanks, Gabe

Around my part of the world 20 or less and they will not come out until daylight and will hunt close to home then get back up, when it got that back when i coon hunted a few years ago, i would go out in the early part of the day in real remote areas and tree as many as i ever did @ night

it probably depends on our normal temps, in n.e. ok it's 20 or less in your country it might be quite a bit cooler

We've had em out in the single digits to the teens but its not too likely. They somewhat go into a hibernation it seems when temps get that low, or feed during the day, but if the day temps are also that cold then its hard to find them at all

below 20 i dont get excited to go out. if you get a cold spell, low teens or below 0, and then it warms up to thirties, then that seems to be a good time to run em. early morning hunts may be fruitful as well.
