Garmin DC40

Post by Trailhound »

Has anyone heard if Garmin is planning on releasing a DC 40 collar this year there's lots of talk on the internet but Garmin won't tell me anything, this is there reply to my request for info.

Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

Happy to continue support. While Garmin is always striving to create a
better customer experience, we have not released any plans to come out
with a new version of the collars for use with the Astro system.

I'm Trying to decide if i should just buy the current model or see if this DC 40 gets released, any thoughts would be appreciated.

I'm a field tester for Garmin and I've been using a test prototype of the DC40 for the last 6 weeks in testing. The DC40 should hit the market sometime this summer. It has many new features that I believe will improve your outdoor experiance. New features are,

Unlimited range in any terrain.

An integrated camera with zoom features that will allow you to see treed game before walking into a tree. The camera also allows you a view from the dogs perspective.

A scent indicator that allows you to know ahead of time what your dog is running. The screen will flash '' Opossum'' ''deer'' etc etc.

The new DC 40 will also have a built in shocking system that will allow correction of unwanted behavior. For example , when your screen flashes '' Opossum'' , you simply apply the tone button and if that doesn't solve the problem , you can then apply a shock at various levels of stimulation until the negative behavior ends.

I hope this answers some of the questions you have about the new DC 40. Thank you.

Here's that guys next post:

OK , OK , you guys blew my cover ! I'm just a wanna be field tester. I don't know a dern thing about the DC40.....

BUT , I do remember Grandpa saying a long time ago that some day you be able to put a collar on your dog and then know where he is at all the time. Of course we all rolled on the ground in laughter and made fun of him....

Many years ago he also looked up into the night sky and said '' someday a man will walk on the moon '' ,,, and everybody really had a good laugh at that one...

Who knows what the future holds in technology , but I'd be willing to bet a tracker/shocker combo will come out pretty soon all in one unit.

There is no word on it yet. Unless you work in the R&D department of Garmin nobody knows!!!!!

Would be very foolish to think that they are not working on improvements. Yet they may not implement them into a whole new collar. Just improve the current model like they have been doing. 3 major changes so far in just the DC30. Not to mention all the software upgrades.

The DC30 looks pretty good right now compared to the DC20 but It would be nice to see more reliable signal, at least Seven days worth of battery would be good but I would be happy with a longer time setting to extend current battery and day-glo collars, I'm sure there's more changes everyone would like to see.

But a guy really shouldn't complain because this is a huge advancement for houndsmen compared to telemetry equipment some times it just take a while to get the bugs out. It would be nice if Marshall would give more info on there system.

There is a GPS Collar/Shocker that will be released this year. Not from Garmin.

Yes, who is releasing one?

I know Marshall is releasing their GPS tracking system this year but theirs is a GPS/Telemetry combo system.... You can track by both GPS and traditional telemetry with it.

It's not Marshall. I'm not sure if it will work with the Garmins. I'll try to find out.

buckshot will this new collar need a new receiver as well and if so will the new receiver be able to track the dc30 that is out now? i just purchased the garmin system and hope that my investment would not already be outdated but with hopes be expandable to the newest technology available.

Right now I work for Garmin's primary US distributor.. Garmin usually announces major new lines well in advance, but they've been pretty tight-lipped lately about the DC40.. The last news we heard from Garmin is that the DC40 will be released between May and August of this year.. But this is not set in stone..

Garmin makes nearly all it's money on their traffic GPS systems.. When in doubt, they hold off on outdoor/sports unit development and focus on traffic units.. All the same, I expect to see these hit the market just before the fall...

Also- no need to worry, even if Garmin does eventually develop a new handheld to advance the 220, the DC40's will still be compatible with the current Garmin Astro 220 hand-held. This was Garmin's statement in Dec/Jan. But again, developments are not as quick or focused in this category since they're main lines are traffic.

Sorry.. I don't have many details on the upgrade. When I saw this post yesterday I talked to our Garmin rep to see if he'd give me a hint on release date.. I know in our discussions, the reps don't get much info from developers. Only real hint I gathered was that they were working on longer battery life..

Something worth noting is that Garmin actually makes a few changes throughout the year on current models. They had production delays on the DC30 mid-year this year because they were working with component upgrades.. I imagine there will be a few cool changes, but I don't know how dramatic it will be.. I'll be thrilled if they can give us longer battery life..
