I could use some advice fellas. I have never hunted bobs before. All ive ever hunted was coon. About a week ago i turned my black and tans loose for what i thought was goin to be a good night. After 30 mins or so my young dog came back so i put him back in the box and was waitin on my old dog to return or strike. I watched him on the gps for another 15 mins and finally heard what i was waitin for. But then he treed for about 2 mins and went back on track. Another 5 mins or so and treed. Then back on track and then treed. He did this for almost two hours. It seemed to me that what ever he was after he couldnt keep treed. Could it have been a bobcat? Ive never run one before but have never seen him act like this before either. He's 9 years old and have never seen him run anything but coon since i got him 2 years ago. Any input?

I have heard that bobcats are hard to keep treed over in your part of the world... I don't know why that it.. And I hear a lot of people say that they bail out when you are walking into the tree... or.. they just don't stay treed.. I'm not sure if it has to do with tree size? Never been to TN so I am not sure how they compare to our woods out here...

I would imagine your terrian is the same as it is here in VA, big hardwoods to pines to clear cuts. I've coon hunted my whole life and have ran several bobs and thats usually how they my coondogs do it-run tree bail, run tree bail, imo i think its the light that makes em jump i've always heard that it's damn near impossible to keep one treed at night. just my two cents

Thanks for your thoughts. I talked to a man last night who has run them here and he said that thats what he thought it was. He told me that he has to use a pack of 4 or 5 dogs to keep one treed and that having that size pack was still no garantee
