Has anyone ever had a dog get pancreatitis? My vet said it could be caused by high protien/fat food. I switched from Diamond Performance 30/20 to Diamond Extreme Athlete a couple months ago because i couldn't keep weight on him. That is the only change that has been made in any part of his life recently. Has anyone experienced this before?
Thanks

Re: pancreatitis
I had a dog that just got over a bad gut infection/pancreatitis. Not sure what caused it with her; but I was hunting in a canyon where I found 8 dead deer. Some were partially consumed, some had not been touched at all. Dont know what killed the deer, but my dog had a bad infection come on 3-4 days after I hunted that canyon.
Combi-Penn shots, oral Bay-trill antibiotic pills and Gentamiacin intramuscular shots were not doing anything.
X-rays showed gas in her abdomin(not in intestine, but abdominal cavity), which could have been caused by infection. After 9 days of a fever of 104-105, blood work showed white blood cell count at 38,000. Normal white cell count is 9,000.
I gave a Sulfa pill along with the other above anti biotics and some B12 and A D & E shots, and the next next morning the fever was gone and she acted like a brand new dog/puppy. I thought she finaly had it whipped and the next day she had a fever again. I reflected back on what was different and the only thing I could come up with was the Sulfa pill.
I started her back on sulfa and the fever went away and she acted great. After a week and a half on Sulfa, I stopped. She has been good for 2 weeks now and I checked her temp yesterday and its still down. She is acting as good as new!
So...........if one or three antibiotics are'nt working, keep trying until you find one that works on your infection.
