need help with ticks
need help with ticks
I was wondering if anybody else has problems with ticks getting on you when your out hunting. We seem to have most of the problems in the spring and fall . My friends kid even contacted lyme disease . We've tried differant types of sprays but they just don't seem to help . So does anybody use something that works for you ?

DEET for your clothes and the Purple Python Ear Tags for the dogs.

Here is how I do the tags:
I over lap the tag and punch the male button through. I take a Dremel (or you can use a grinder) and file down the point on the male button till it's round and smooth. No glue to come unglued or tie straps to break.
Here is what it looks like:

I don't see any results of them helping for fleas so you want to use something for fleas, but it worked against the ticks and flies.

When I buy a box of them, I do them all at once then place in ziplock bag back in box.........I replace tags every 3 months on the dogs so they are already put together when I do.

Thanks Buckshot , thats a great idea. What brand of tick spray would you recommend for human use. We have tried different sprays buy still have them crawling all over . Tends to ruin the whole outdoor experience

Yes they do make deet that you can spray on your cloths. I think you can wash your cloths like six times before you need to reapply. I've used this with good success. You can also sprinkle yourself with 10% seven dust. This also works well in South Texas anyways.
Re: need help with ticks
the python tags work well, as do most any brand of cattle tag. I cut mine a little smaller bc they are made for a 1000LB animal not a 50 lb one. have used them whole before too with no problem, but I now try to cut them smaller. You can use the same tag sucessfully for 12 months. Never changed mine after a few months, and never saw a tick on any of them while a tag was there.
You can also use the bayer tree and shrub from lowes or any seed store, put a couple cc's on the dogs back, make sure you get it down to the skin, this will kill ticks and help prevent fleas, has the same ingrediant as some well know flea medicines. Didnt use the tags last yr but the bayer kept all ticks off as well, I reapplied every 60 days or so.

Re: need help with ticks
Bayer tree and shrub now has fertilizer added to it............No place last year had any Bayer without the fertilizer around here with old stock of the old version.
I switched to Gordon's Tree and Shrub as it's the same ingredients of the old Bayer version. So is Old Dominion Tree and Shrub.

Re: need help with ticks
buckshot your correct on the fertilizer part. I used the bayer insect control after not finding a tree and shrub that didnt have fertilizer, worked the same as the old brand.
