Washed Out

Post by Gary Roberson »

Drove to South Texas to shoot an episode of Carnivore. Brian Hawkins, J. Martin Bassinger and I decided to meet in Tilden, TX at 6:00 p.m. and then go to the ranch near Freer.
When I drove up to Wheeler's Store, there were a total of four pickups with running dogs in them. I got out and met Mike Rooke, Hensley Weaver and Clifton Lyles. There was no doubt that I was in Dogtown, which is what Tilden was originally known as.
We visited a little and looked at each other's hounds and then split up. We headed south and they drove north. I hope the guys had a great hunt.
We did not turn a dog loose until the next morning and it was raining. Between showers, we jumped a cat that was really running and went over the deer proof fence. It rained the rest of the day. We got up yesterday morning, hoping to hunt until noon, but after running another cat through the high fence, got rained out. I loaded my gear and came back to the house, hoping to get back down there before it gets too hot to finish the show.
Adios,
Gary

Hope you get to finish show.
I'm planning on going to Freer this weekend to cat hunt but there is another good chance for rain. Odd as heck for that area to get the amount of rain they've had this year.

Gary,

Sorry to hear about the Bad luck on the Hunt....however never sorry to hear about Rain in South Texas!

Yall stay after them! We are having hell running a Cat as it has gotten darn Dry here and the Huge amounts of Pollen here is playing hell with the Hounds as well as the hunters!

We have a guest here from WI and are having to hunt around the Turkey Hunters. We are however blessed that the DNR lets us have Hounds in thewoods an hour after dark as long as they are out an hour before daylight!

Trailed three last night till they hit a road then wondered why we feed such Sorry Hounds!

Dad is about to stand on his head wanting to head to Florida, we should be there on about the third of May. Give us a week to get settled and find where the Cat are, then bring a Camera and come see us!

Mike
Called back to the ranch where we were hunting and they ended up with 5.5" of rain. He said that Choke Canyon and Freer had over 20" of rain in the spell. Will pm you my phone #.
I am trying to reschedule our hunt there as we did not get what we wanted for the show. I am shooting to go back down on the 2nd of May.
Adios,
Gary
