Some breeding questions

Post by BKMFR »

A few questions: First, What are the optimum days? I have read anywhere from 9-14 but, no one seems to agree? Secondly, what is optimum days to hook them up? Also, on that thought do most of you hook them up once or once for 3 days or once every other day? There are so many schools of thought out there. Just wondering what everyone subscribes to and has had good success with. Thanks..

I just kennel them together. When she is done she will let you know.

What I try to do is on the ninth day after you see blood check her (if you breeding her at home) with your male, (if you carrying her off) twitch her on the back of her back leg around her tail, if she rolls her tail over she will be ready. Most of the time the ninth or tenth day is the best. Once they breed skip a day and breed her again. It always works well for me. Good luck!

NMP..that's what we normally do. For some reason that last female we bred we bred her 1x per day for 3 days in a row. She ended up having a c-section. I was wondering if the way she was bred may have resulted in the c-section?

Rod...thanks for the info. I think the skipping a day may be a good idea.

I agree the best was is to pen them up together but if you want the exact day we always breed the day the blood stops. just check the kennel floor and when it stops she is ready. we also scrach them on the side of the tail and they roll it to the side when close but they wont always let the male breed until the blood stops.

I dont think the # of times or frequency breed has anything to do with how she will have the puppies.

i have and two dog get together by mistake once and have 12 puppies and others penned up and watched at least 3 hookups have only 2.

it is kinda a natural process and we really have to do very little short of letting them get close enough. he will try and she will let him when she is ready, when she is done he will know
