Cats moving in midday heat

A friend, told me he saw 2 different cats the other day, one around noon, the other about 1:30pm. Temps about 95- 100 degrees, and humidity near 90%. I try to hunt around dawn to avoid the heat. No wonder all I do is strike tracks too cold for my old hides to trail. But it'll get better, and I'll be happier. Good Luck And God Bless. I'll hush now.

We have a red fox that just moved in behind my neighbors. We see it all the time in the afternoon. Prob had kits somewhere near but it moves around alot even in this hot Northern Ca weather.

Cats are hard to figure but if you have a mess of wildhouse cats around watch them. Some days you will never see them until near dark others days they will be all over the dang place in the heat of the day.

A story was told about famous old bobcat hunter from deep South Texas named Rufas. He might be headed to the store in town for some purpose at mid-day but if he saw the wild feral cats out moving all over town was out he went and loaded the dogs. LOL!

Same thing with every Hunter we talk to...cold strikes at night....Cats hard to find when it is cool enough to run so you do not have to worry about killing your Hounds. This from Hunters in 5 different States.

Mike is the only one who has had any luck lately....and he had a long dry spell of no luck before it changed.

Dad is throwing a fit because I am out West looking at some Ranches for a friend and not hunting him. But it is in the 80's at night in AR...the Humidity is about the same. Just miserable for Man and Beast!

My theory is the Cats are moving in the middle of the Day as it is too damn HOT to sleep.....thjey like us wait till it cools off to nap.

Tell Ms. Pauline hello as well as your folks! Keep those "Ole Hides" after them Cats!

PS- Mr. Mike, that Rufus would have been Mr. Joe Rufus Lyne...he did not need much excuse to go load the Hounds!

Another reason that they are moving at midday now is the full moon. I have found that there is something to the solunar tables and the active feeding times.
It was good to meet Mr. Clay and family along with Audrey last week. I heard a few great tales.

Hey Gary, you're right about the moon fazes. Why?, I don't know. Some ?s in life never get answered. As far as The Clay clan, we love em all, Mr Finney And CJC get a lot of recognition for their hounds and hunting, but the best thing that ever happened to them, by far,is Miz Ruth, and her wonderful cooking. I had a large bobcat cross a blacktop road not 20 feet from me at 10:00 am this morning. We both took a long look at each other. First one I have ever seen in the wild. (They are very rare in Ohio). My beagle pack was running hard on a rabbit in a pine plantation and pushed him out. When the pack came by soon afterward, several wanted to switch from rabbit onto the bobcat, but I convinced them it was a bad idea. Would have been interesting to see what those 15 hounds could have done with him, but I could envision a bad ending. He was twice their size.

I think I'll stick to reading the great stories by Mr. Clay and others and let you guys do the bobcat hunting....

Ira Woods now that's a name I haven't heard in a few. Sho nuff sounded like he did all right with them pint sized rabbit runners.

He ain't holding up too well.....and the Heat has had nothing to do with it.

I have been in West Texas looking at some Ranches for a friend rather than taking Dad hunting every night...he ain't handling this as well as he should!

I was told yesterday about the Cool Front moving through that lowered the Temp in AR from 105 to 95 and told that the Hounds are getting awfully Stale!

Yesterday at 2:00PM a Big Tom went across US Hwy 83 ight in front of our truck, with a big Rat in its mouth. Earlier yesterday morning, another Cat hunter (Mr. Duwain Vinson) had coffee with me about 8:00 AM and he had seen a Cat coming to meet me.

So it looks like the Daylight hours is when they are moving right now.

I pulled another Ira Woods this morning. Made a big circle and made 5 trees, looked at 6 coons. Actually I did more than look at them. Got to catch all of the coons out before I can catch a cat. Course it would help if I could find a cat track. As you know, I caught 6 coons the day before yesterday.
Sounds like to me you needed Pop and the dogs on the Texas trip. Stay safe on the road and tell the gals "Hey".
