how old is too old to breed a female?

Post by bigboarstopper »

I just posted in another post that my female is possibly having a false pregnancy. She is getting old and if this breeding didnt take then I would like to give it another try. My question is how old is too old to breed? Given she has another heat cycle.

Of course everyone will feel differently about this but I feel like if she is in good health and I want the pups then the age doesnt matter Im willing to try it. Especially if she is too old to help your pack run anymore, the only thing she can do to contribute is to raise a pup or 2 for you. Ive bred old ones that raised some, bred some that lost them all, and bred some that ended up dying. These were all dogs that had a home until they died even if they never ran another step, so the way I feel is if you want some of that stock, give it a shot, although older females tend to have a little more trouble than younger ones in my experience.
