i have owned every hound but a leopard hound and all crosses in between. i,ve seen bears over all of them lol yes even a plott. jk. i have had my best luck with black and tans and english dogs or a black and tan bluetick cross.

The way you brindle boys talk them plotts up, I might just have to try me on a pair of them one of these days. I guess until then I'll just use what's in the yard. To me it's whatever suits your style of hunting. I only require that they crap twice as much as they eat.

whatever puts the meat in the freezer.
Re: What is your favorite type of hound!
My best dog was a b&t she died at thirteen but saw a lot of lions in her life. A walker/ bluetick cross took her place he was killed in a dog fight. Now my best dog is a registered bluetick that was given to me by a kid getting out of hunting with hounds. It has been my experience that the best hound is the one that steps up and gets the job done LeRoy

Walkers... That being said - I don't like every Walker. Overall as a breed they tend to have everything I want, on a consistant bases.
Second favorite is a close tie between English and Leopard Curs (Hounds). I would own another nice one of either anyday. I just find it hard to consistantly find either of them in the "total package" like I can the Walkers. They are usually lacking something, whether it be speed, mouth, tree, grit, drive, or nose.
I haven't seen enough good dogs in any of the other breeds (Bluetick, Black&Tan, Redbone, Plott) to even consider them. I've owned a couple, and none of them made it. I just don't think there is enough consistancy in them. Crossbreeds have even less.
