Re: water
I carry two red 3 gallon fuel type plastic cans full of water in the truck or in the panniers on a pack horse if I have to go deep into some really dry places and it is warm to look for a lion. I have several of the Filson callapsable drinking bowls for the saddle bags. If it is just a regular hunt I have a good big canteen and then some bottled water in the bags. A lot of the country I hunt has very little running water in it so when it is warm and dry you better have some or after a long race or on a long hot trail you will not get the most out of your hounds.
Remember a hot panting dog will pass right over a lot of tracks he would have detected if it was cooler, or he was better conditioned and hydrated. Bird hunters in hot country like deep south Texas and such plan for this and carry plenty of water and some even have a bathing system built on their rigs.
