dominent colos

Post by bad moon »

i have been noticing some odd colors being thrown out of some litters i have seen lately, now dont get me wrong i am talking mut pups all crossed up what ever hunts best gets bred sort of pups. it seems as though bnt is a fairly dominent color even if neither parent have it in them. for example my buddy runs a nice line of walkers, a bithch of his accidentailly got bred by another dog(1/2plott,1/4redbone,1/4walker) half the litter came out bnt not one came out walker the rest were red plottish dogs. whith a little over half walker blood why was it not thrown. example two. 1/2 bluetick 1/4blood the rest is a little of every thing but way back. bnt in color got bred by a plott/blutick mutt who is solid black and also got bred by a pure walker. pups either came out solid black or just a touch of brown. what are the chances of the walker being the dad of some of these?
anyways just been a thought i had since i went to see the oops litters my friends have been having i know color should not matter but was just curious as to why some colors show up more such as bnt

Bad Moon I was wondering the same thing. I bred a pure bluetick male to a brindle plot bitch and the pups came out all colors of the rainbow. Two or three blueticks a couple redticks and a couple of....you guessed it b&t! Not one brindle. It seems to me that b&t might be like sorrell in horses and just be a dominant color thrown.

I bred a BT male to an eng/blu female she had 12 pups and everyone was BT some of them did have a little white on the chest or feet.

i wonder if it has to do with the foundation colors of the bloodhound. seeing they are part of the foundation of most of your coonhound breeds?
