hats off to Renato Nunes of the PBR

Post by southwestwalkers »

Gotta give credit where credits due. I was hoping that Meier wouldn't choke and Mauney would put it all together but it didn't happen.

It sucks that Meier and Mauney couldn't save there best for last. I can guarantee that it's a lesson learned for these guys and the rest of the American Riders.

I think Mauney may have a shot next season but I feel that this is the closest Meier may ever get to a championship. I hope I'm wrong..

It's going to be tough to stop the Brazilians invasion. My brother in law was an amateur bull rider and knows about everyone in the business. We also have buddy from Brazil that was living here and riding in MN. He’s now down in Texas working on a big horse ranch for Ednei Caminhas. My BIL has been down there and spend time with them. The inflow of Brazilians riders coming into their Texas facility is staggering. They work their way up the in lower tours and the cream of the crop end up in PBR. A couple years ago I really thought there was no way the Americans were going to be able to keep riders at the top over the Brazilians. I’ve been pleased to see a crop of young American riders with a hunger and desire to win be able to keep completive. The reality is the Brazilians still have far more desire to win. They aren’t just doing it for the love of the sport like most Americans; they are doing it for the survival of their families. Renato made more money this year than his entire family would have in their entire life times. It’s just the way of the world and I congratulate anyone that can get on those beasts and make the rides.

Hunger is the key to it all. if the young American riders would take it as seriously as some of the top bull riders have and pull a few pages from their stories as guidelines they would be well on their way. The imported riders "not all are Brazilian" have the hunger and work like crazy day in day out. look at the amount of training available to the average US rodeo cowboy. grandpa, dad, little britches, high school, collegiate, and all of that before they have to pay their membership dues or work their way up. I see a lot of these young guys and winning isn't their daily goal. some have grown up with every training device and opportunity available even professional coaching. to me it just proves desire is the important piece missing. will the US continue to turn out top riders? yes. we have desire too but like stated above the pay check doesn't look as big to a American.

maybe, however in order to win they still have to ride the bulls. we still get to watch and when competition starts things always improve.

Pegleg, you nailed it!

shorty on here ofcourse knows all these guys personally and they are all in the top class and when you get to the Ford Built Tough circuit you are not finding any easy bulls and not many of them have a bad day. These Brazilians live in obscure poverty by US standards and just winning a Championship Rounds not even the year nets them more pay then they would ever see in their entire lifetime. So they are very dedicated and have tons of focus. While some of the US boys are out whooping it up and spending some winnings they are back at the gym working out, riding practice bulls, watching videos and being coached on hard by Adriano.

They will be very tough to beat, and keep you eye on Silvas....

By the way, how many is a Brazilian? LOL!

You nailed it Mike and I'm glad to see that some fellow houndsmen and women are watching. I do know them all very well and there aren't many (if any) that aren't welcome in my house. The only thing I'd like to see is them focus on money more at a young age. Usually by the time they figure that out their career is already winding down.

Mike we've been trying to get McKee to ask that very question on air. I guess he's too chicken!

Shorty, Keep drumming into those young men the importance of taking care of there money. The gravy train will not last forever. We need to constantly preach to the younger generation the importance of fiscal responsibility and that there are consequences to bad decisions. If only I had known what I know now when I was younger I would be hunting a hell of a lot more now. I have been fortunate enough to pass on my mistakes to my kids and by the grace of God they have listened. They are way better off at their age than I was at their age! Youngsters, Please liston to you elders so that you will not make the same mistakes they did!! JMO

Good idea Mike, ol' Hummer could pull it off.

By the way I just wanted to let everyone know that there will be some changes coming to the PBR. First off starting the new year we have another TV producer. Much of the crew will remain the same. However I believe the look and feel of the telecast will be different. I think this will be for the better as they will be trying to show more of what happens on the dirt and behind the scene. The old ride, replay, score over and over will be history.

The new producer is one of the best in the business. His credentials are endless and a great man to boot. I'm looking forward to this and think it'll give us the boost we need. Thanks for watching and I hope you like the new season as much or more than the last season.

I think the most talented american in there will keep them at bay next year with a full season, that being Cody Lostroh. Also a young gun that hates, hates loosing and works hard is Mckennon Wimberly. His dad " Joe Cool " was always a hero of mine. Once when I was riding at the Pikes Peak rodeo he and Mckennon who was just a boy then were there and Joe helped spot me in the box on a bad one, made the whole trip for me to have Joe Wimberly tell me "Way to be a cowboy son". There is some big time talent in the Brazillians, but I still gotta root for the home country boys.

Shorty,

My home town boy Ryan McConnel has lots of talent as did his Dad. He is just going to have to work more on that focus and not so much on slapping his face and his ridem dance. LOL!

Give em heck out west~!
