Eating lion chops? I SURPRISED MY WIFE!!!!
Has anybody here eaten any lion meat? My taxidermist mentioned it the other day and I thought he was more than half nuts. I know cats are eaten overseas but so are alot of other strange things. How does it taste(famous answer like chicken) and how is it best prepared? Now without a dog I won't get my first cat down this year but curiousity has got to me.

its excellent when done right and not over cooked. Small cutlets breaded and in the frying are great......

Excellent meat! I cooked up a huge batch for the first Shade Tree annual BBQat Cooper's place in Arizona and it went so fast it was amazing . The gals really liked it too.
My favorite is to cut the back straps fairly thin, soak them in milk. Prepare a mixture of flour, a bit of cayenne pepper, black pepper, garlic salt. Remove meat from mixture after 1 hour, and shake in bag with flour and spice.Fry in a pre heated dutch oven or hot skillet with oil. do not over cook. You can prepare some dipping sauces if you wish and eat them similar to chicken tenders or some even like to make a white gravy to dip them in. Cougar meat is very white and fine textured but it also has no game flavor and really takes on the flavor of the spices. The little bit of cajun spice really sets it off.
Some just like to take small pieces and use a bit of olive oil and and spice and quickly grill them on the outdoor pit.
Do not discard the hams for even on older cats they can yeild some very tasty dishes.
As I said don't over cook but make sure it is not eaten too raw. Although there was a lot of warnings a few yeazrs back about the possibility of Trichnosis from cougar meat I have never heard of a single case myself.
Many think it bears a similarity to veal.
Bon Appetit !

Every lion and bobcat I have harvested or my dudes have taken,I have always look in the intestines to see what they have eaten.I have yet to see one that was not full of many types of worms. Many have worms in the hams when held up to a strong light.I have eaten lion, bobcat as well as bear,I'll take a beef ribeye anytime.I just have a tough time eating a big housecat-that eats coyotes and they do a lot in the west!!!!
I surprised my wife
I made dinner and just told my wife we were having chops. Two days later asked her to stop by a friends and pick up some meat for me. She asked what kind of meat and when I told her she went NUTS. She said yuck, disgusting and your crazy I am not eating that. I told her "you said it was good the other night why the change of heart now". She was very surprised and pissed but later said "well it was good why didn't you tell me first."? Hot fry pan and Johnny's Seasoning salt=finger licking good. MEOW
Will eat it anytime I can. I have some burger that I am going to make jerky with. I'll see what happens.
