Poll for Starting Pups....

Post by DeVuono311 »

So as I'm sure you may have noticed... I have posted Bloodhound pups on here for sale. However someone raised a good point in another post... Started pups are easier to sell than a pup whos ran nothin at all. So heres my question to everyone. I have one male bloodhound pup and two female bloodhound pups still for sale. All are full blooded and akc registery, vet certified, dew claws removed. So I need input. What would you be MOST willing to spend or most common to look for a pup started on?

Bear?
Coon?
Bobcat?

Any input would be great. Thanks all!!!!

bobcat as it leaves the least amount of scent and is a tricky little beast. If your dogs can get it down well enough they can switch to something with more scent fairly easy. I personally do not like coons as they are sespools of disease and bear can break a dog with one swipe if the pup gets to much gaul on thier first attempt. I also use squirels as they tree fast and teach the dogs how to treat a quick moving animal.

Ours always seemed to torture the house cat while running around, we let the pups run around till they start wondering off.

they are bloodhounds, forget about game and start them trailing people, get em started that way and they will be worth a whole hell of alot more than game!

I know everyone is always wanting a dog that will tree every track found.

But I have had my dogs turned loose on a Bobcat crossing the road only to find them treeing on a bear.
I have also tried to cold trail a bear and found a big lion in a tree.

I always start the pups out looking at the house cat in the yard. Nothin gets them fired up more like seeing the brave furry cat walking by their kennel, knowing that they are safe.

When they get ready to start treeing the house cat good, this is when we show them nothin but coons. But this is for bear dogs, you might want to just stay with big tom house cats if lions are your game.

I don`t like my pups running loose, had several killed for the mules kicking them.

I start them on coon at 4 months and usually by 8 months old they will go with the other dogs on bear.
