Town Hero

Post by 007pennpal »

I finally trapped the skunk that was terrorizing widows and kindergardeners here in our small town. Now its safe to celebrate Christmas without fear. First skunk I caught on purpose. Man that guy was stinky. Its the down side of being known as the town mountain man. I guess there is a duty to community you gotta do even if it stinks.

Sean, skunks are by far my best money maker and easiest critter to catch. I use plastic catch traps that are designed for skunks, they are fully enclosed instead of open mesh. If you don't have plastic catch traps, just put your cage trap in a plastic bag and run some tape around the trap to keep the plastic from flopping around too much. Once caught, I put a wood cover over the opening of the plastic trap connected with a hose to a CO2 bottle. About a minute and a half of CO2 and they go to sleep. Or you can use Chloriform. They never spray and it's the easiest $200 I make. Last year I caught around 75 skunks.

Really, you can get $200 for the pelt? Maybe I'll go dig it up.

No the pelts are only worth $5-$10 he does ADC work thats where the $200 comes from. If they were worth $200 per pelt I would be getting a new rig this year, :D
I still keep the ones I trap and put them up I look at it as gas $.

Fullycry, i guess we are in the same profession, i use skunk traps from WCS its made out of PVC with a straight up and down drop door, and man THEY WORK AWESOME! if you get them to the front of the trap and then pull the door off, you can fire them along ways lol. I dont kill too many, just go to a big block i bait bears at and dumpem off... I always hate the calls were a land owner has caught a skunk in their own coon cage, i can usually get them without getting sprayed but i usually get it a couple times a year lol.
