It all depends on the days. That is cat hunting for you. The guys around here seem to be finding a few tracks to try. Not a pile, but enough. A couple years ago I knew where a cat was hanging out within about 100 acres and that prick didn't make a runnable for two weeks. I cut that little section crossways twice and couldn't only find old snowed in tracks. He must have been doing his hunting around during snows or something.

The worst part about not seeing any tracks is that after awhile you try to make everything a track. If the snow is tough to tell, it's even worse. After a track drought one time I got excited and sat on a track waiting for daylight to come. We were just about ready to roll when I looked again because something didn't look right. I saw it was a F'in fisher that decided to walk and not hop for about 300 yards.

Nolte-- Done that myself a few times!!!!

Cats are a real pain. I find them all spring summer and fall. When they are moving all over the place. Once the snow hits they seem to go to the thick stuff and stay there. Often where no trail or road comes close. Have seen them sit on a kill for a couple of weeks. Not moving more than to feed than back to a hole/brush pile to rest.

I prefer to run cats. Yet, unless I have a tag will not go looking for them. Just does not pay to spend the hours of time and miles on the equipment to find one. I have some honey holes, but have to travel. The main areas I hunt will once in awhile bump into one. Othwerwise we drop on a yote.

What stinks is most of the time to find a cat consistently I need to go on foot. In areas no man really wants to be. But that is where the cats go when the snow flies.

Good luck to ya, and keep the gas cards full :beer
