Dukes 1st Cat

Post by ledge bellar »

I took my dog out the other morning, came across a cat track, snows kind of deep right now he open on it and off he went, my female followed behind him. I could hear him opening and getting out of hearing distance, the cat was heading for a frozen river. I had cut a bigger cat track earlier but the owner wasn't there, the land was posted, but the owner of the land where my dog ran the cat gave me permission, so thats when we returned.
Anyway the dog went out of hearing, and I followed his tracks, my female was on top of a ledge treeing, nothing in the tree, i could hear my male but I couldn't find him, when I went over the ledge there was a cave in the side of the ledge and I could faintly hear him in there. I went in and it was darker then a boot, i didn't have a flashlight or anything so I pulled him out of the cave tied him off and headed back 3/4 mile or so back to the truck to grab my flashlight. My female was back wandering around the road???? Maybe because I had discouraged her for slick treeing over the ledge where my male was, anyway i returned went back into the cave crawl into the back and see a cat!!!! I shot the cat, which was way in the back of the cave, so I had to take by dogs leash with two sticks and toss it over his head and pull him out. My dog went nuts!!! The cat weighed 28.5 lbs and it was his first cat. He has ran them before, but non of these 8 hour runs that you hear of on here??????

I'm thinking the cat track was not more then a few hours old, but I also don't think he was too far from it, anyways he got the job done, told me where it was and kept it bayed til i got there, can't ask for much more then that, even if it was an easy run, snow was deep, thats for sure.
