4 foot dog run?
4 foot dog run?
is 4 foot fencing tall enough for a dog run? i would think since they have an open place to run they wont try as hard to get out. i could also put a hot wire around the top to keep them in if i have to but just wonder what everyones opinion is on this. i really wanted 6 foot fencing but the store i was just at cant even get 6 foot field wire and the 8 foot was more than twice the amount of the 4 foot. 4 foot was 160.00 for 330ft and 8 foot was well over 400.00 for 330ft. im going to check around at a couple of fencing places and see if i cant find 6 foot but in the mean time whats your oppinion on this?
Re: 4 foot dog run?
Ive got about a half acre feneced with 4 ft field fence with a hot wire top and bottom.
No problems so far, been useing it for a couple months. I kennel them at night or when
Im gone.

Your asking for problems if you only put up a four foot fence. The first cat or bear that walks by and your dogs will be gone with or without a hot wire. Field fencing doesn't come in 6 foot, you have to buy two rolls of the 39 inch fence and overlap it three inches in the middle.

My kennel is 4' tall, 60' long and 9' wide, I keep two hounds in. Never had either of them go over it, even when a cat goes by... They just blow up on it, but have never tried to go over it.

hmm thats good to know because my original idea was to get 6 foot fencing and bend the bottom foot in that way they cant dig and the fence would only be 5 foot.

Whats your snow situation? Right now 8 feet aint enough here and hot wire usually dont work when they're standing on snowpack.

snow isnt an issue at my house we usually only get a few inches at a time and its usually melts off within a few days. most we will have is 8-10 but even that is rare

Use high tensil wire above the 4 ft. to add heighth every 4 to 5 inches. I have used this for dogs. For bison I add a (40 joules)hot wire at eye level and and at 12 inches from the ground.

A 4' fence, are you kidding? My dogs go over my dads 4' fence like it is nothing, if it wasnt for the chain my dogs would be running loose most of the time.

i have 4 ft fence on half an acre for the hounds to run around in and have never had a problem!!!!!
