what all do you need
what all do you need
what is everything you need like equipment dog house etc.. besides the hound to go hunting and keep it at your house i would like to start looking up prices so that when i jump in the coonhunting world i know a lil about what to expect. ps how much does a rigg box cost?
Re: what all do you need
You can build your own box cheap me and my partner both built ours for about 45bucks not including rack and carpet but carpets cheap. Other then that you will need a tracking box, some sort of antenna depending on which style of system you go with, a collar per dog, possiblly shock collars, lead lines, a .22 or any small caliber rifle or even a 410 works good, flash lights i always have multiple lights on me cuz you never know when a bulbs going to burn out. Just so you know this sport aint cheap so you better start saving now. Theres a few things im missing but these are most of your main items. Other then that just have fun and good luck

Most of the stuff you can make your=self to cut on the expense.
Dog house= Blue iodine barrel ($5-$15) from any local Dairy .Screw wood legs on it and a peace of carpet for the door.
You can make a nice wooden dog box for $100- $300. Go to a scrap yard and you can fine the metal you need to build your strike rack. Just get a buddy to help you weld it together.
Tri-Tronics shock collar ($160-$400)
Dog collar and leash = Buddyw on this board or huntsmart.com
Tracking collar= You can find some great deals on a tracking system ( UKC forum, E-Bay, Coondawgs.com) as every one is getting rid of there telemetry and going to GPS. Don’t think you need a GPS a telemetry one will get you started just fine.
Hit up Craigs list. I saw a NICE aluminum dog box on there for $300 the other day..
Good luck..

dog, .22, flashlight. thats all you NEED to go hunting. the expensive stuff are luxuries not necceseities. i've been hunting for 4 years and i still dont have tracking collars, yet. hunted for 2 without shock collars. been using those little blinking lights you put on their collars as a poor mans tracking system. make sure their collar has your name and phone number on it so if you do loose your dog whoever finds it knows its yours.
