One set of tracks, how many lions?????

Post by Brent Sinclair »

One of our collared toms on a trail cam.
Then a few minutes later in broad daylight followed a female....notice where she is stepping!!!!!!
I always thought it was the toms that followed the females...

That is so cool, great pictures. Makes you wonder huh? I found a track last week walking in the bottom of a moose track, makes me think of how many moose tracks i've never looked twice at. :)

Nothin surprises me anymore, just when you think you gottem figured they'll make you eat some humble pie...
I remember passin a moose track twice one time when I had just started lion hunting in the late 70's thinking after a couple miles down the trail it looked different???
I went back 2 days later and killed a big tom eatin on that moose about half a mile down a finger close to the river in a patch of willows....guess where I found his track!!!!!

By the sway of their bellies it looks as if they shared a romantic dinner together. I don't think it is uncommon for a tom and female to spend time together this time of year or any time of year if she doesn't have kittens. Even though they can breed anytime of year most time their litters for the spring and early summer fawning and calving of their prey base.

The tom dined on a big ram last June that would score close to 180 and has killed 4 goat that we have found so far.
We plan to remove his collar in the next week, maybe she'll be around and we can get her and put a collar on, it would be interesting if that was possiable , then see if she visits any of his past kill sites!

The only info we have is on the tom, I would'nt think she has much to do with him unless she's looking to breed.
They may feed off the same kill while their together but I dought she kills for him, likely for herself and he feeds from that kill if she lets him...and the other way as well.
I have seen on occation where both have fed on one kill and have assumed it was a breeding pair.

It's a shame you can't keep the tom collared as well as getting one on her. Seems like a great opportunity to gain knowledge of their interactions. I think it would be well worth the cost of another collar.
Anyway great pics and info. Thank you for your posts.
