What are you wanting to hunt with your hounds. That also might be of some help in finding what your looking for. I'd send you three different ways depending on what you were wanting to hunt (coon, bobcat, hogs).

Lots of coon hounds in East Texas. I can't think of the town, they have a lot of night hunts in the eastern/northeastern part of the state. Shouldn't be to far from you. I'll think of the town later and get back to you. That should get you started.

If you are in the Ft. Worth area, before you waste LOTS of TIME and MONEY, PM DerekE here on BGH!
For anyone wanting to run Bobcat, the 1st order of buisness should be to find a Consistantly Successful Hunter in your area. Then introduce yourself and spend time learning what works in your new area.
The difference from Hunting Bobcat in ID and now trying N. Texas would be like dating Roseanne Barr or Jennifer Aniston. Both would make interesting conversation, however the techniques of dealing with each would be VERY different.
Hounds needed to be sucessful on N. Texas would be very different from what will work in South or West Texas!
Then remember over 95% of the land in Texas is PRIVATE and permission to hunt is getting harder and harder to get!
Good Luck!

Re: need help in texas...
Best of luck to you here in Texas. I'm 29 and since I was old enough to lead a dog or two I was in the woods with hounds. All stopped about 10 years ago. Great Grandpa til me hunted cats, fox, coyotes, and coons. Went to many a cat hunt in south Texas and ran the socks off them where I grew up in Smithville/Bastrop. Loved the high speed chase of coyote hunting. I know of one guy still alive other than my dad and he runs coyotes, and from what I hear he is always in Oklahoma. All the old timers I knew are gone. There are a few coon hunters though. I got the fever again recently and hog doggers are usually happy to have the help in the woods. Never hog hunted so it was kind of suprising when I found out the dog mortality rate for hog dogging rookies. Nah, I like the dogs too much. I have a few places up my sleeve, but like I posted on here before, it's the nature lover on his 40 acre "game ranch" next to the rancher who doesn't like the idea. At least around my house anyway. I got on this forum to try and make a few contacts, ask a few opinions, strike a conversation, and read about what I love to do. Its seems there aren't too many cat/yote hunters in Texas, but maybe they just aren't on BGH. Anyway don't be suprised if you have to look harder and welcome to Texas!
