Snowmobile Sled

Has anyone tried using these types of sleds for hauling hounds? If so how do they work for you?

that otter looks to small to fit a hound :lol:

That looks like Freds set up. Fred uses an otter sled with a sky kennel. They work real nice because on trails and roads, the whole bottom glides on the snow and is less tippy then a runner sled. Downside is in powder snow its more drag on the sled.

I found the picture on hunt101 and after looking back on there I think your right, so I guess thats at least one who has tried them.

I put a pet porter on my backend of the tunnel where the supply rack use to be. I can fit two hounds comfortably....

Spanky i used to do that also, but had to watch what trails i went on,center of gravity high on the rear. Especially with two dogs.

I stand when I run anyway so I put more of my body over the handle bars when loaded :wink:

I use a plastic polar sled the large size, I built a box in the front end of out of 1/4 plywood, still fairly light, I also bolted a 2 by 6 on the back end for a seat for extra hunters, fits 2 big guys and 4 or 5 dogs, I also made a hitch out of steel for it, works good. we use it for coyote and cat hunting here.

I built a trailer that I pull behind my sled-I used extra wide skis so it will stay up in the powder-the box is built out of aluminum-after building three frames I have the skis so the weight a balanced and it doesnt tip over very often-I pull four dogs and go about anywhere I want to go if the snow is not to bad- if I can figure out how to post a picture I will

i use one that that is called a jetsled that i made an aluminum top for and a door on the back and outdoor carpet contact cemented to the bottom. i think the name of the company that makes it is shappell. use the biggest one they make and you can probably get 5 or 6 dogs in it. mine is the next to the biggest and i can fit 4 tightly. the whole thing weighs maybe 20 lbs
