Broken toe ? Shoulder ?

What does a vet do for a broken toe, rear foot 2nd toe in from the outside?

Harlo's toe is broken at the second knuckle... pretty sure he got bit by the bear as there is tooth sized hair missing on all toes on the sides and its swoll right up.
Whats the heal time on this anybody know ? 4-6 weeks ? Do much for it besides lay him up ?


Daisey got mashed on the shoulder, hooked in the arm pit and while feeling her down at home after cleansing the holes I can feel/hear the mushyness under her skin on the whole outside of her shoulder.
Not sure if its broken but will get it x-rayed tomorrow. Despite climbing out of a hell hole on her own, she's in a lot of pain now.

I had a dog that got bitten by a lion and broke a toe like you described. There wasn't much the vet could do, so I just layed him up until he quit favoring that foot. It was a long time ago, so my memory could be off, but it seems like it took around 3 1/2 to 4 weeks to heal up. My dog's toe was broken in two places. The morning that it happened, we found another track after they fought the first lion,and the dogs hammered on it for another 2 hours -- broken toe, bruised back, banged up and all.

Greyhounds used for the coyotes break them often enough and the time of 3 to 5 weeks sounds about right.
A lot depends on the dog and wether he'll give it a rest.
I had a old female that was bad about that. Gave it all she had every time and always broke a toe.

Sucks, this will set you bsck a bit. Sound like the shoulder is soft tissue damage and will just take time, perhaps a lot of time.
