coon hunt
coon hunt
I decided to go out behind my father in laws house and hunt down the creek, I usually go to hardscrabble for night hunts but i did not want to be out all night. I had never hunted right behind his house and had always wondered how good it would be. So I decided Friday night was the night. we walked up the creek all the way to his lake and just walked around it hoping xbox would pick up on somthing. about 3/4 the way around the lake Xbox jumped a coon and it must have only ran about 50 yards befor it treed. I knew what tree it would be in since there is only one where he was treed at. It is a big dead tree in the lake, with the extra runoff we have gotten this year the lake was above normal depth, and the tree was actually about 15 yards into the lake. it was probably about 6 feet deep where Xbox was swimming in circles around the tree. So I shot it out, but it sank. Xbox swam around in circles he could smell it but could not find it, at one point he lunged forward biting at a shadow! then he dove under water which scared me a little but he came out with the thing in his mouth and carried it to shore to chew on. It was pretty funny to me, reminded me of a bird dog swimming back with a big duck in his mouth.
Re: coon hunt
thanks for sharing,
I once had that happen as well, I shot out a coon and when it hit the swamp it sank like a rock. We didnt know where it went for some time until a pup wadded over to it and went under the water and pulled it out. coons sure don't float worth a darn LOL

Re: coon hunt
I was surprised too. I figured it would have floated when i shot it. but It seemed to have sank like a rock. I couldnt help at laugh at him though lunging at nothing, and again as he carried it to shore. obviosly he wanted to get it where he could fight it on his terms but it seemed as he did it that he was just retrieving it.
