"Dead Tail"

Post by N CNTRY BGLR »

Anyone ever experience this? I ran my pup the other day and she ran harder than she ever has. Last night my two males got into a little tussle and she was in the middle of them. She put her tail between her legs and wimpered. You could tell she was in pain. I ran her to the vet who gave her pain meds. I spoke with a dog trainer friend of mine who told me she had "dead tail." After reading about it on the net, I would say he hit the nail on the head.

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this and what you did to remedy it. My pup is on the "rest and relaxation" regiment for a few days.

I had a lab that had the same thing. My vet said it was from over work and poor physical shape. I have made sure that I have my dogs in top shape before I hunt them anymore. Good luck.

This happened in my beagle pup (she will be 6mo next week). She has been in the running pen 3 nights a week for about 3 to 4 hours at a time for the last 2 months. She does not have the speed to keep up with my 3yo and I just picked up a slow to medium male. She was able to keep up with him and ran a solid hour with him. She was hitting harder than she normally does and I think this is where/how it happened.

She seems more sociable today and is using her tail more than before.
