friday mourning cat hunt

Post by Alabama Cathunter »

I had a friend invite me down to Fla. cat hunting friday a.m. 9-9-11. We started hunting about 2hrs before daylight. they had been getting a little rain it was 58 degrees stars shinning perfect mourning. You could not have sent prayers up to the good Lord and ask for a better mourning. We were hunting 6 of my trained dogs and 5 pups about 1 year old. We had been hunting some roads that were pretty good tracking and had not seen anything.Well we picked up and my friend said put the truck in a higher gear we going to go to another place that the tracking wont be as good said we will have to road hunt the dogs because the roads are to hard want be able to se any tracks. Well that made me think about Dadsdogboy cjc talking about rigging dogs. I told my friend that I wanted to try something. I have a 3 yr old dog that has barked from time to time while I would be hunting with his nose stuck out the side of the box. Well I got bear and put him on top of the box and we started driving this is new for me so we were driving about 5 or 10 miles and hr had gone about half a mile when bear started bellowing on top of the box. It all happened so quick I could not believe it. I got out of the truck and stared looking for tracks but road was to hard. Well we drove a little bit further and dog was still barking. come to a sandy spot in the road and there was what we were looking far but had one problem. Cat was going infront of us but a greyfox was going behind us and both were breaking the dew so didnot know which one was the hotest. We just keep tracking following the cat we tracked the cat a total of about three miles. We had to wait till we were not seeing any fox tracks before we could put down the strike dogs I dont have lots of cats in alabama so I have to run fox some to. Well we put down 5 dogs and they could smell the cat . We trailed the cat down the road for

We trailed that cat along time before he finally left the road but when he did it was on got all 6 broke hounds on the ground it had got daylight the dogs was really doing a good job. I wanted to turn the pups in there so I got the truck turned around and about that time here comes a hog hunter so I had to let him go by. The pups were raising cain in the box well about the time I let the pups out to the pack the hog dogs in the truck started barking down the road in the box well there goes the pups to the hog dogs Well the hog hunt speed on up and all the pups but one came back and got in the race. I told my friend if he would stay there I would go try and catch the last pup. I finally caught up with him. When I got back they had just had a loose. It lasted about 8 or 10 min. then bear and tide started grinding out the trail trying to get back under it. About that time sugar, redman, and dottie found it out a head well it was back on puppies started putting back in and mr tom cat decided he was headed north. Well my friend said the way they are driving that cat we better move we dont want them to get across that last road. Well buy the time we got there the dogs were crossing and there was no slowing them down they had blood in thier eyes and trying to catch him

Well I caught one puppy that was behind . Well they were really pouring the coolaid to him and my buddy said can you hear that traffic I said yes it sounds like the interstate. He said its not but might as well be there is that much traffic on that U.S. highway. The dogs were running right side of this major hwy you could hear it bumper to bumper. My friend told me the 30 years he has hunted there he has never had the cat cross but that is the reason he dont like the dogs to get in there because there is all ways the first time. Well I went to the back of the truck and let the other pup out I said well if they all get killed on the road there is no reason to have one dumb pup. Well for one hr and onehalf we set there and listend to as good of a cat race as one could listen to untill they caught him. all of the old dogs came out to the truck horn but the pups bayed the cat for about an hr finally I got to them. All followed me out but 2. Naturally they went out the side of the hwy but made it across to the other side. We got out there on the median I got mytracker out sure enough they had got across the road. I waited for the traffic to let up on that side .I got my shocker bumped them blew my truck horn both pups headed my way. Well here comes the traffic but all slow down and let me catch the pups. Well good hunting. Im tired of typing Robert!
