Spring Bear

Post by snowy river black and tan »

Here is a big bear we caught last spring. There wasnt many places to hunt because of the snow. We showed up where we wanted to hunt at day light got a strike and turned out. The dogs went north, we found a road that cut back up to them. We found them milling around a bait site. There was a guide whith his client and dogs trying to get a track started. I aplogized and rounded up my dogs and left. We got the map out and found a drainedg that looked good. It didnt look so good once we got over there everything was dried up and brown. We were in the middle what looked liked the desert. There was a road runing up the crick, we drove it out with no luck. We turned around while I was apoligizing for wasting my buddy's time and gas money. The dogs struck! not very loud or strong. I turned out anyways. Doller started it, barking only once before he was out of hearing. No beep or anything for about three hours when they came back into range I kept thinking trash second day of the season and this wasnt bear country. Tree switches started going off and we started walking. Forty five minutes later they were moving agian. As we got closer I could tell they were bayed up in a clump of trees I set my shooter up so he would have a shot if there bear left. I went down a steep draw as I pulled up out of the draw the wind hit me in the back I knew the bear was going to break. Pretty soon I heard a shot, I looked up and hear he came. We were both in the same chute with nowhere to go. My shooter shot again. On a dead run the bear reached back and bit at his belly. My buddy shot over my shoulder killing him at less than ten yards. What a rush.Image
