Cats and pups

Post by Jmac25 »

Ok so I have a question for some of you experienced guys. Let me start by sayin I read this forum all the time but this is the first time I have ever posted. I hunted alot when I was younger but am just gettin back into runnin hounds. So I got me a young walker pup a few months ago. Hes a great prospect I plan on runnin coons and if he has the desire maybe a few cats. Anyway he is 5 months now. So I take him out just after dark to see if we can run across a hot track and just let him run a bit. Well we were down on the creek banks. I cut my light off and the pup was doin his thing bout 50 yards away I heard something across the creek. I cut my light on to see what it was. And theres a cat creepin up behind my pup. You guys think he was tryin to get ahold of my pup? when I cut my light on the pup came back across the creek to me and the cat disappeared. I honestly dont know if my pupcould have handled that cat alone.

The cat either was going to pounce on him or was just curious on what was in the area. A lot of times people think lions are stalking people when in all actuality they are just curious what something is. People get freaked out a lot but if that lion wanted to it could of take that person out any time it wanted to, therefore I think a lot of times people think a lion was trying to stalk them when really they are just curious by nature, jsut like housecats. Not with a bobber it could be the same thing, or the cat may have been looking for a meal? Hard to say. 5 months may be a little young to handle a full grown bobber by himself, I had a 6 month old one kill one on the ground but he was real gritty and the cat wasnt a big cat, although I think he could of killed a bigger cat. Instances like that aren't going to happen everyday though, I wouldnt worry about it and just keep hunting him, a big coon could hurt your pup too just something that can always happen.
