Post by Drytrail »

Looking for some more info or training tips in this type of hunting. Not looking for anyones secrets or hunting places.Just wanting to open up my season some, we can run year round here in NV.I am sick of the snow I really enjoy watching my hounds work the dry ground.I have only caught a couple with out snow and would really like to improve that.Any body that would like to talk about this subject is welcome to call me in peson, but i will wait until you post to give out my number in a pm.
You have to catch em not chase em

Well i can't be any help to ya either, but i was curious if ike would be willing to put some stuff on here about some pointers of dry ground training so everyone can read it. I personaly am curious to know, if it is at all possible. on how to go about training a pup on dry ground hunting. I'm sure you can train a started dog to touch up his skills on dry ground but what about a dog that is starting from nothing. How would you go about training a dog like that on dry ground. Thanks Daniel.

If you want to learn about "Dry Ground" Lion hunting... the best way I know of is to get out there and get after it. Nothing like on the job training :D .

If you want to learn about "Bare Ground" lion hunting keep reading Ike's posts... There is a huge difference in the two. IMO! Just because the ground doesn't have snow on it, doesn't make it dry!

You really need to learn to find lion sign in the dirt. Scrapes, tracks, kills...etc. You also need to learn the area you are hunting and figure out where lions will go and for what reasons. Water is a major help in the dry summer months, find the water and you will find the cats.

Keep after them and you will get lucky. Good luck and have fun.

Last time guys ....Ike quit responding to them and it will get old to them ...we all hope.....Rockcreek ...teach us how and leave Ike alone

5 years from now I want a true pack of do it by myself hounds not hounds that pee on one another and call each other names.

If we have to call names(i will regret this ) atleast follow Calkins and Plottchaser and start a tread in the cage and have it out.

Well unfortunatly IKE i live in a state that prohibits the use of dogs on lions. It might be a long stretch but i was meaning more of hunting bobcats on dry ground. Also in oregon our pursuit season is from sept.1 - the end of nov. then hunting season is Dec. - the end of feb. So my season is already over and my pup is only a little over 8 months old. She hasnt ran her own cat or anything like that yet. This summer, once i grad. college and get some more time to work with her. I was hoping to train her. But not exactly sure how i should go about this, since i cant hunt her with other dogs or anything like that cause season isnt open. Would it work to use a house cat in the woods or what. Any ideas would be greatly appricated.

Best advice I got, "was good bobcat dogs are Dead Broke"..

I'm still working on that! Trick is to break them and then..get them right back on a Cat.. That's the hard part..

come to the Oregon convention in Canby and you should be able to meet some hunters that put a few cats up...

Good Luck.
