TURNING COLLARS OFF!!!
Went up this weekend, had a race going, trackin the dogs all of a sudden totally lost signal!!!! I was using a marshall collar which are turned on and off by a magnet without inserting just swiping it. There were a couple of other guys in the area with dogs out!! Anyways I started getting a signal come around the corner, well it was another guys dog so we callled him drove atleat 15-20 min out of our way to meet him, right before dark. Ask them to check a track on my dog from the side they were on," oh we were bangin 10's right back up the hill" so we drive up there not even 2 min later and nothing at all. Seems kinda fishy to me. Seems as if someone had turned the collar off to check a track on there dog and didnt turn it back on or didnt care, then tried to cover there ass!! Anyone ever had anything like this happen. Yes i checked the collar, batteries are still good, the collar was TURNED OFF!!! DC

Re: TURNING COLLARS OFF!!!
the #'s were 10 off so it's close enough to have alot of bleed over, which means they couldn't track their dog with my collar on?! Sounds logic to me!!!

Re: TURNING COLLARS OFF!!!
did you know the other guy or was it just some random in the woods dude.
And how did he get your dog to turn the collar off? Just trying to understand the story better.

Re: TURNING COLLARS OFF!!!
I use Marshall collars, I love them for coon hunting, but lately they are a pain in the ass to track because they are so strong. They bleed over on everything no matter what freq it is if they are anywhere within a mile of another dog, and they are hard to tell how close a dog is.
I have had one of my collars shut off on me for no reason once before. Dog must have come close to something with a magnetic field, or just got jarred hard? I also have one collar which the light comes on randomly by itself. Every now and then I'll get the dog back or get to the tree or look in the box and that collar will be lit up.

Re: TURNING COLLARS OFF!!!
@ OUTLAW There were several guys in a group did'nt know any of them but know the names of two of them and heard some shady things about one of em!! Don't know for sure what happened so i cant point the finger or throw names.
@ Redwood yes they are strong and bleed over alot. More of a reason for someone to shut one off to check a track and especially being so close in numbers the bleedover had to be strong. Not to mention the dog i picked up had a tree switch in it. You have to keep any other collars with magnets seperated as they will very easily shut them off or turn them on i keep them in a seperate bag while not hunting and always check them before they get turned loose.
@ houndhavoc I was up around highway 120 on the north side of the highway.
I would hate to think someone would do that and i really hope they didnt but it just doesnt make sense. As to why someone would say they were getting a good great signal on my dog and i am there 2 min later and nothing at all. With a marshall collar i can get a signal for a long damn ways so i know he couldnt have gotten a signal.

Did you get this dog back? Was it a long ways from where it should have been? I had a similar experience with tracking a dog that was close one second then no beep 5 min later. Game warden picked my dog up and was driving around with him in the front seat. Talk about being angry.

Re: TURNING COLLARS OFF!!!
I use two Marshall collars 10 apart sometimes. There is interference, but I can tell them apart. Of course, when I do it, its intentional and I know what I'm listening for.
I have also turned mine on and off accidentally with my keychain--I keep a Marshall magnet on the keychain. Grab a dog running by and next thing I know the collar switch has been swiped.
Is it possible they got into a magnetic field? Lots of things produce magnetic fields. Near my mother's house, there are a lot of abandonned iron mines== they can turn collars on and off if the dogs get in them.

DC:
I had a similar thing happen a few weeks ago with my Marshall collars. I was convinced that someone turned off the collar or the dog was stolen. Fortunately I stayed up there looking for her until I finally had some cal fire guys spot the dog and give me an idea of where she was at.
Long story short the dog was recovered a week later by sheer luck but my Marshall collar was off. I had new batteries put into the collar the morning of the hunt and according to Marshalls website they are suppose to last 700 hours off of new AA batteries. That collar would shut off just by bumping it or shaking it. I also have two other marshall collars where the lights randomly go on and off as well as one collar goes on and off alone.
Marshall said they would repair the collars which I have sent in but for bear hunting I am looking at another route because having problems with three of my eight collars isn't very good odds for reliable telemetry.

Re: TURNING COLLARS OFF!!!
Tim, I have one collar that does that, light going off and on whenever. It's never shut off on me. I had one I bought that seemed to drain batteries in a hurry, I sent it in and they sent me a brand new collar.
Like I said I like them for coon hunting, but they are a pain in the bear woods, having to shut them off and on just to try and track a dog with all the bleed over.
Magnum collars IMO are best in the bear woods. They are the second strongest collars. I have a bunch of Johnson and Wildlifes sitting at home. They were 100% refurbished by Johnson last year and IMO are junk. I lend them out as spares or puppy collars for roading.

Re: TURNING COLLARS OFF!!!
Like I said they were completely rebuilt by Johnson less than a year ago. Been used about 5 hours max. We had dogs treed, tried beeping a dog that was at the tree, and couldn't even get a signal. Less than a half mile range, and even then you can't tell if the dog is close or not unless your on top of them. That was with a Wildlife 1000 box and a Tracker Maxima...

Re: TURNING COLLARS OFF!!!
for real start posting prices and frequencies. and i would have to think that collar has an antenna issue that is getting no range send it back in especially if it were rebuilt less than a year ago. I sure would.
