You just got to go for it. 99% of the cat we tree are on bare ground here if I waited for snow my dog would end up fatter then me. find the cover & feed then put them on the ground road em walk em rig em how ever you hunt a cat dog don't need snow to catch a cat. if you are getting rain you got more then we do here GOOD LUCK

Jeff is right ! Get those dogs out and road them. My dogs do not know what snow is living in Southern California.... If you don't start a cat the dogs are staying in shape and you got a night out hunting. Remember a bad night of hunting is better than no hunting at all !

Get out and cast. The only thing is if a guy can try to stay high and to a flank of the dogs on the creek bank then you might see how or where the cat is sneaking off too some times its back where you came from and some times its going out ahead alot of times it just gets higher and watchs the hounds so it can move stratigicly away from them. Be patient and look or listen to when the dogs are hot and start working one area that is where old bobber is doing his circus acts. Thats how I got the cat the other day. The dogs were working a bowl in a creek bottom the cat gave them a circle or two I could tell by the voices of the hounds they were almost to a jump and then I saw the cat slip out of the creek to some buck brush along side of the creek I got lucky and got a chance to sneek withen a little under 200yds and shot the cat with my 17. If you can use the wind too go into it, and the rain should hold scent in the tracks even after they froze. The big thing too is time you go out I have had better luck catching cats in the 7-10am then other times of the day because my theory is if it is at all warm u get the up drafts on the peak of any banks or hills and that will be where you will have your loose. That copper dog has and will tree on bare ground just take a little more time to work a heavy covered area. One other thing if the track don't seem to be getting any hotter in a certain area move down the creek a ways and work the next cover rich bowl or finger running off of the creek. Also look for the Y's in the creeks good place to start cross tracks.

sdred, not much point in having hounds if thats the way you get a cat. Cheaper to get a Fox Pro and loose the feed bill.
