I also posted this topic in the Bear Hunting forums but could anyone tell me about the availability of public land near South Lake Tahoe for hound hunting. I have read the El Dorado National Forest has near crazy private land boundaries.
Are the winter road closures I have read about really true? I am trying for a career move from Kern County which will put me in South Lake Tahoe and just want to now if I will be able to get around on the public land with my dogs.
Any input would be appreciated.

Re: South Lake Tahoe
I lived in south lake for two seperate winter times. Although I can't tell you much about the public land I can tell you about the town and the people. They are all pretty awesome people and there is alot of stuff to do in the surrounding area. Lots of women and great snowboarding too. As for hunting I would like to return and hunt the Nevada side of the mountains. The California side was so snowpacked I wouldn't doubt the road closures are crazy.
