I believe that my young redbone got a thorne in her foot. Its swollen pretty good & she isn't walking on it. What is the best thing to do for this? I have started her on Pen. G
Any advise would be appriciated.

I recently had a dog with a thorn between two of his toes and I didn't want to take him to vet because I am cheap. So on recomendation from my dad I tried soaking his foot with epsom salts. Took about a week of twice a day 5-10 mins at a time and the skin softened enough for the thorn to finaly pop out with a little presure. The swelling went down after the first day. Guess the old man acualy knows a few things.
I used a small dish of warm water and mixed the epsom salt in (directions for amount are on the box). Then I picked a time when it was dogs nap time, middle of the day and again in the evening. Buddy just layed there and let me put his foot in the water, but I did have to stay near and keep him from pulling it out early.
I would have tried to cut it out but he was not having any of that... kept pulling his foot away every time I got close with the scaple. He will let me sew up cuts on his body but would not let me mess with his foot... guess the feet are more sensitive. The skin had closed back over the thorn so I could not pull it out.
