Re: GOPHERS~!!!~
Well this might sound crazy, but my uncle used to half bury empty beer bottles with the necks sticking up. He said when the wind blew over it it made a certain tone the gophers could hear, and they would all leave. I will say it did seem to work, but then you have empty beer bottles sticking out of your yard all over the place. The man was an interesting character anyways. He lived in Southern California, where it was constantly windy. I am not saying this is the best idea, but it was really funny, and did seem to work.
However, my grandpa uses gopher traps, they are similar to snap traps used on rats, except you stick them down the hole so your dogs don't get into it, he uses a carrot as bait. He also says if you burry the gopher in its hole after killing it other gophers are deterred from the area. You can get the traps at home depot.

Black hole traps, you can find them online. A good cat gets a lot of them.

Re: GOPHERS~!!!~
There are several types of traps on the market for gophers. They work very well. You dig out the tunnel so you can fit a trap in EACH direction. These traps only catch critters going one way so you have to set two of them in each tunnel. You do NOT use any bait. They are tripped when the animal tries to pass through them. They are very effective. I attach them with some trap wire to a flag or something so you can find them when you return 5-7 days later. Set the traps in the tunnel and then cover with a rock, do NOT push dirt back in the hole because it could cover up the trap.
