Garmin Antenna for A truck.

Post by Neff »

I recently hunted with a fellow that had a long antenna on his truck that would hook up to his Astro unit. I do not know anything about this. What antenna should i be looking for at radio shack? certain length? Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have them I picked them up a few weeks ago to offer, I Just haven't listed them on my website yet. I'll have them put them up on the site today.

They are a VHF Antenna most of the ones you'll find at radio shack will have the wrong connector, You'll either need an adaptor, or cut off the end and mount the right fitting on it.

I can do it either way, I bought a handful of the adapters also so that folks could use there VHF Antenna for their Garmin if they needed. Might help out in an emergency.

I'm waiting for the fender mounts to come in since I'm going to offer them with the magnent mount and a Permanent Fender mount since I'm tired of knocking over my Mag mount all the time.

You can give us a Call. I'll post the link later.

I have a magnetic roof mount that I picked up from Radio Shack. I can try to find the model number for you. I did have to buy an adapter to fit the Garmin Astro, but it works with both the Astro and also my ATS system. The roof mount antenna runs about $30 and increases the range tremendously. Well worth the investment to get one.

Here are the Options I have been waiting to get posted. The only parts that I"m waiting for is the Fender Brackets, But I should have them arrive Friday.

Astro Fender mount antenna

Astro Edge (trunk) Mount

Astro Magnet mount Long whip

For those guys that already have a VHF antenna mounted they can unscrew the cable from their Radio, and use this adaptor in a pinch to increase the range if they need to increase their range, Just make sure you turn off your radio so you don't key up with the antenna disconnected since that would hurt your radio.

VHF to Garmin Adapter

Hope it helps you might find them a little cheaper some where most of the radio shacks around here hardly carry anything custom anymore. I think You would be better finding a HAM store locally
