question on collars

Post by tod watterson »

I have an astro 220 with 4 dc 30 collars .I have had this setup for couple of years and never had any problems so i've never updated it .The last time i went out and used it i noticed the two collars i use the most have lost range .Both seem to stop reading after about 150 yards while my other two in the same race and all dogs still together will function normally .When you get close they will start reading again .Any tips or ideas on a fix would be appreiciated .

Update the collar(and the gps), check your gps and radio antennas along with the connections. I might consider buying some new radio antennas as well. Also when those collars get "lost" are they losing radio contact or gps(this info is important so people can put input in that will help)

When i lose them it reads ''lost communication with '' .It will do this with all my antenas but will read two of my collars even if the dogs are together .Like i cant pick one of my most used ones and one of my less used ones will come in right next to it 2 miles away then when i get 1 or 2 hundred yards from the one i've been reading the one i lost will come back and start reading again

I have had mine over three years and have never updated them, to be honest I dont even know how to update them but I have never had that problem, I do have certain collars that pick up at a little farther distances than others, but none that drop offf like you say yours do at the distance you say. Just a guess, but maybe your batteries are getting weak in the collars and may need to be replaced causing them to not have as strong of signal as your others. Like I said, just a guess. The one collar I have that has the farthest range is actualy my oldest collar, out of the ten I have and it does have the newest battery in it so I dont know if that has anything to do with it or not but that is what i noticed with mine.
