Awesome videos, I just got them. Still watching them.... pretty cool stuff. Do you mind explaining more about them perhaps and the game in them? Pretty neat watching those border collies bay up that stag.

Thanks also! I got mine also and am still watching them. Pretty cool country you get to inhabit. I love to watch the border collies hunt as well.

That Rusa stag was filmed by a friend up in Queensland, They were going back to recover the rest of an animal shot the previous day
On their way back , they came across the two dogs, cattle dogs from the property chasing that stag
Rusa deer are quite commomn in Queensland and NSW
Sambar Deer is the only game animal we can use scent trailling hounds on
Bloodhounds , beagles and hopefully soon Harriers are permitted but only here in Victoria where the sport has been around for about 80 years or more
Hounds can be used on "pest " animals such as foxes
We are allowed to use 5 dogs and have up to 10 hunters on a deer hunt
Some of the sambar footage is also taken in NZ , But the footage on the DVD with the sambar ,including that stag i talk to ,is taken not far from home
Sambar deer only have 3 points on each side
A representative trophy would be above 26 inches on each side with most hunters aiming to get a 30 incher

The sambar signs footage was done in New Zealand, not all that far from Rotorua
Rob goes there often to go filming , i went with him once and was a great trip
The deer eat the bulb end of the "cutty "grass and they can be located by the squeak made by the grass being pulled up by the deer
Helicopter activity is quite common around the area and as you can see the deer get alert but not too alarmed by it
Rob used to be a meat hunter in the old days when deer could be sold for export , he also did a little recovery work from choppers and those are some of the photos seen on there

Pretty awesome stuff man, I appreciate it. I watched one video so far, when I get the time ill finish up the other one. Is there more than one specie on this stuff? Looked like all the same to me, they look to be about the size of an elk. Maybe a bit stockier in build.

The stag with the Border collie is a Rusa , Have a look at his antlers and the main beam is straighter, The Ears are different as well
The rest are all sambar
Here in Victoria , you can hunt them all year round by stalking although the Alpine National park is closed to hunting for 2 months over summer
Our hound season goes from the 2nd saturday after Easter until the end of November
No bag limit , any sex at any time and still the numbers are increasing despite getting a hammering from the fires
Wasn't it great to see the 2nd dog come in and distract the stag as he was rolling the first dog
That first dog won't make that mistake again

The fallow deer you saw on the neighbours lawn came from a deer farm near home.
If you google earth Warburton , vic , australia, you'll see surrey road on the left hand side of the golf course.
Between that and Millgrove is half deer farm fence and half state forest, They let the deer go when the prices dropped years ago
Then above the houses you'll see road 18 which is the road that runs alongside the old aqueduct.
This is where i run the young pups until i can't keep up with them, My training is just keep putting young pups on fresh scent , as many times a week as i can usually 4-5 times
Getting them to come through the creeks and later on taking them to the river for a swim
There is no hunting allowed but people do and they know i run pups up there.
So often local hunters will go up there and take a deer off the pups, hence the video footage of the guy in a singlet by the deer fence
It can be a bit of a shock sometimes hearing a shot go off nearby when you don't know they are there
The sambar footage is unusual ,in that ,this is not normal for sambar unless they are not disturbed.
You can hear dogs , cars , cows , peacocks, lawn mowers etc in the background from a couple of houses nearby.
The highlight of that filming was talking to that stag.
Rob , whose footage is most of the other DVd , got me into this and is a top bloke.
Fellow Kiwi and a top hunter, was a meat hunter in the past in NZ when you could sell deer at the buyers , who then exported it.
Rob is a little under the weather as he has to go and get his prostate out soon
The hound hunting part is fairly heavily edited as we nearly lost our sport a few years ago and had a few issues.
But thanks to the efforts of the two main orgs over , we have regained some ground
A big thank you to all over in the US who gave me ideas and helped, now time to get my A into G and get the most out of the trip in a few weeks time.
Anybody wandering into Melbourne, i'm 1.5hrs east of the airport , always a place to stay just give me a yell

When you see us dragging the deer out by rope and i make a reference to being an ethical crew.
There is no requirement by law that says how much meat must be taken out of the bush after the taking of a deer
We usually feed all the dogs that turn up at the carcass off the animal.
As many as possible walk into where the animal was taken .
We lead the dogs out and carry out the meat , legs and backstraps, if the animal is near a road ,we'll drag it out by 3 or 4 people or hook it up as seen in the video
We often pickle the meat and give away to people in a small town where we hunt, Have the meat minced up and made into Dim Sims and give them some back steaks as well
We donated money to the Volunteer Fire Brigade in that town as well as giving an old gold dredge to the museum.
It just helps support a small community in our own little way
