Distance to the tree

Post by easttntrapper »

On average how far would yall say you travel to get to treed cats from the point where the dogs started the track. I have hunted bear and they seem to take you a long ways from the start of the track. Is this something I can expect out of running cats? Just trying to plan my areas. Looks like I will be hunting NC in areas I am not familar with.

Bobcats don't cover near the ground as a Bear. But some of those rutting Toms has took me on a few death marches. Normally after a cat is jumped you don't go too far. Daytime hunting cats you will cover more ground because of the longer cold trails. Night hunting cats you get hotter strikes because that's normally when cats are out feeding. If your start topping a bunch of hills and running long hard races without trees you may want to let the sparks fly! :D Welcome to the world of cat hunting. Once it's in your system you will be addicted. Hopefully you can find a successful cat hunter in your territory to help you get started otherwise its a tough road. The good thing about most hound hunters is that they are salt of the earth type people and would help out anyone that they felt were really wanting to learn.
