6 inches of snow and a light dusting over track

Post by bullseyecowboy »

My one dog was having a hell of a time lineing out the track , is the sent trapped or what.

I mean you could see the track clear as day on the logs it was crossing , but then hit the bottom of the creek and do would stick his nose all the way to the bottom and sniff really hard and then hit 3 or 4 more track and then nothing.

Sounds like the scent was froze up. Really sucks when that happens as you can track almost faster than your dogs. You can try and figure out where the track was heading and then try to cut it a ways down and see if the scent conditions improved as the way I understand it, it all depends on when the track was laid and when it was covered up by the powder. I'm not sure if it is going to warm up to above 32 or not up there, but you could try and line out the track via sight or get to a point where the dog cannot go any further, then as the temps warm up try and catch it as the scent lifts.

That female I that you went to pick up for me , I walked 150yrds of the track with her on the leash and the last 20 she was really pulling wanting to go , so I turned her loose and she rand the track for another 150 yards or so then came back. She is a dandy pup.
