swim or tree ?
I am pretty new to hound hunting, was wondering if anyone had any experience with a coon swimming across a river on them. My pup acted like he was on one the other night started opening a little, at first with his nose on the ground like he was tracking, then he started looking across the river and opening. I shined my light and saw two sets of eyes in a tree across the river. Im not sure weather he chased them across or if he was just winding them in the tree, he is pretty young and doesnt make much noise till he is pretty close to a critter. There is just as many trees on the side of the river i was on as the other side of the river, so i kind of figured they were just up there and he was winding them. Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Re: swim or tree ?
I've had both situations, when my dogs were pups they treed one across the river that they smelled from across the water, (i knew because i would of seen their tracks) but my dogs hated water and wouldn't cross. Just this weekend they swam two across the river down shore back across the river and in a big oak. So it could have swam and your pup just didn't want to go or he winded it.
