Flea/Tick ?

I was wondering what everyone else does about fleas/ticks.
I don't have an issue with fleas, but i do have an issue with ticks. I have used the topical flea and tick stuff like frontline but I don't like how it leaves the dogs greasy and how the dirt sticks to it. I have also used tick collars which seem to work until they get chewed off(which seems to happen alot)
Any suggestions on what else to use/try?
