January Cat

Post by jbc67 »

I was looking through some pictures and thought I'd share a few from one of our hunts in January. We hunted this Tom for three days before bagging him. We cut his old track after treeing and releasing one of his females a few days earlier. His oversized prints convinced us to add a few days to our trip and stay a couple more nights at the ranch we were hunting. The stars finally aligned , and we ended up with fresh snow, a fresh trail, and only a few ledges. He turned out to be a jumper, but it didn't take long for him to wear down and finally stay put.

Thanks to Twist for the young Walker--got him as a pup 2 years ago, and he's been doing great all around on cats. Here he is showing off on an earlier bobcat tree:

Nice tom and good looking dogs. I like stories like this where guys put a lot of effort in bagging a nice tom. What was the weight on it?

Skinned him out, so I don't know exact weight (I've found my internal scale is no good--and varies a lot by how tired I am when picking him up). You can't tell real well from pictures, but he'd been working a scrape line pretty hard for a couple days and his stomach was empty. I don't know, maybe 150-160 I spit out a bigger number when I first saw him in the tree, but I think it was high.

Thanks for the comments.
