Bobcat Traps?

What size traps and were are the best places to order em? Thanks

I don't know what the best trap is but I use either a 220 or 330 conibear. I usually order my stuff from Minnesota Trapline. They have been great to deal with.

330s are illegal on the ground in oregon, water only. 280s I think are ok but double check that.

checks your regs body grip specs are alot different from state to state, here in mn 220s are as big as you can go on the ground and they have to be recessed 7 inches. I order all my stuff from f and t trapping supply. They have treated me real good over the years. I would look into leg holds and snares myself.

#3 &#4 foot holds are what I like. I use coil and long spring depending on the location, even have some 4 coil 1 3/4 that have caught cats. F&T is where I go for a lot of gear, they're fast and great to deal with.

If you have the money the MB 650 is a great trap. They are expensive though.

You can get some Duke #3's really cheap. It doesn't take much to hold a bobcat. I don't personally own any but they would do to get started. I use #3 dogless Montgomery's-MB 650's-MJ600's- #3 Victor coil springs. But I'm trapping coyotes all fall and winter also so I need good traps that hold up to a pounding. Get the biggest kill area trap that is legal.And yes FnT is a good place to order. Very quick and cheap shipping.

There is usually a reason traps are cheap. Buy good traps with what money you have. What I have seen out of Dukes is that can damage a dogs foot bad in a matter of hours. When you trap think about who you are affecting besides just catching a bobcat. If you are on public land no telling who is going to see your trap and what you will catch. Killer type traps have caused a lot of problems on public land. Dewey

Didn't know that about Dukes. Yeah scratch that idea.Public image is a huge priority right now in Oregon and should be anyway, anywhere you bed a trap. Good points Dewey. I do know you get what you pay for with anything.

The best thing you can do for your self is get cage traps. They cost a lot more but you can release small males & females with no damage to there legs. Be selective about the game you take and there will be more for the rest of us. Plus the big males are worth more.

Ive found that foothold trap size doesn't matter a whole lot. I found to like the 1.75 bridger that came out last year to be a excellent bobcat trap. Ive caught 5 toms that went anywhere from 25 to 30 pounds and held them. The main thing to remember is location. On them small traps though for bobcat trapping I put anywhere from 3.5 to 4 pounds of pan tension that's the big key to trapping with those small traps. And to they are 100 dollars a dozen so not a bad deal they hold just as well as a bridger #2. Another trap I like is the mb 550's great coyote trap.

MB 450 or 550. I prefer the 450. easier to pack if you're climbing to sets. I use my 550's mostly closer to the roads. Both hold bobcats and coyotes. 550 will hold the long tail cats. So far no lions in my 450's. F&T is my favorite, but Minnesota is good. I'm sure most are good. F&T has hound stuff too.
