bear hounds and private land??

Postby chris lavoie » Sat Jun 29, 2013 9:37 pm

Here residents have hundreds of thousands of acres of crown land ( government land ) to hunt. In states like Wisconsin or Michigan for example, what does a hound hunter do if the hounds cross or end up on private property?? I've always wondered about this.

Personally I try to stay far enough in the Chequamegon National Forest as I can. At times you may run a bear closer to the perimeter and either I try to get permission for adjacent properties or try to have a cut off access road to stop the hounds before they get onto private land. It sucks having to pull off a bear because its entering private land but its better than a dog at large/ trespassing fine. Some do just risk it and let the hounds go. One instance like this can make getting permission for land very hard, and sour land owner's views on hound hunters. I'll take that couple hundred bucks I'd save on a fine and put into the gas tank to find another bear. Just my opinion.

Good question where we hunt its so hard , they are private lands everywhere most are own by out of state people , and there might be 1000 acres for us to hunt and a hunt that spot hard . The rest of the land is all private so we have to drive a good ways to get to a spot with alot of government land or wma what ever yal call it . But we end up ok private land pulling dogs off all the time . It's a shame that everyone out of state owns out whole county pretty much . But I'm with ridge runner ! Better to save 300 dollars for gas than a ticket along with your name in a book and the game wardens watching you all the time .
Big ridge kennels

its not the dog in the hunt, its the hunt in the dog

Deer are the biggest factor in people with private land. Nobody wanted dogs to "scare" their deer off their land. This is the 1 and only thing the woof is good for, after the woofs cleaned out all the deer it is much easier to get permission to run dogs on private land.
