Game warden ?
Was anybody once a game warden ,or know family that was or is now a game warden ? I'm going to college now to hopefully be one . I know it's not a walk in the park or easy ,but I know very few people get to be one . If you know anything could you give me some pointers ? My main problem is my dogs . I've put alot of time into them , and know they shouldn't be kept in a kennel while i go to school. My dad said I have my whole life to hunt , but it's my passion to run my dogs now and I've been doing it with my uncle since I was in a car seat . If I by any lucky chance get to be a Game Warden , could I still bear and bobcat hunt my hounds ? Any help or info would be great !

Re: Game warden ?
I don't know why you couldn't.I don't think the Game Wardens like houndmen very much out here in Oregon but as long as we obey the laws there's not much they can do.Although we do have one who Is always harassing us .We also have houndmen turning other houndmen in.Trouble is its not true, but as you can imagine it causes problems .Anyway back to the subject. If that's your passion ,by all meens,go for it !

Re: Game warden ?
Think about what would be the busiest time for a game warden? Probably during hunting season huh.

Re: Game warden ?
I think it all depends on your state. In some states wardens are busier with fisherman or deer hunters than hound guys. In other places, they might put a bigger emphasis on checking hound guys. I know our wardens seem to check us out early in season and then move on to other hunters. But the only thing open when we start is goose season.
I think it's great to have guys with hound hunting backgrounds but realize what you're giving up. Many guys won't ever fully trust you if you're a warden. They will always feel that you're waiting to find something on them to give a ticket. Now if you build a reputation as a fair and honest warden, then the only guys who won't give you the benefit of the doubt will be the dirt balls that are being very negligent in laws anyway. I think you'll enjoy hunting more if you plan to hunt outside of your warden territory.

Re: Game warden ?
Nolte , your right I'd probably have to hunt surrounding states . Even though I've hunted with my group and have known everyone since I could walk , there's still them guys that are just a a**.
Like you have stated above depending on what most of the game wardens focus on in my state. Whether it be deer / fisherman or hound hunters , well bad news they are hot on bear hunters in western Nc where I'm from and even my county they had that major 4 year operation going witch resulted in like 920 violations to hound hunters . My group would be fine with it because we do everything legal , and we even had to call the game warden to help us , get our dogs back and collars witched we tracked to a house where painters took the garmin collars off , but didn't have magnets to cut off our telemetry collars . So we play by the rules never had any problems , but like I said no one else but my group would trust me and I run my dogs with alot of people . Even thinking about joing a club but like you said trust will be a problem .

Re: Game warden ?
don't worry about it. I have 3 very close friends that are game wardens and they seem to have lots of time to go hunting and other sitting around! No more than any other job, jobs require time and they take away from hunting, no matter what job. If you are looking to have the maximum amount of time hunting, then you should pursue being a fire-fighter. But a game warden has plenty of time to hunt, as any other job. The school part might get in the way of hunting. But, I spent 13 yrs in college and found plenty of time to hunt, fish, and do anything else I wanted. The big trick is to pay-attention in class, do your homework as soon as you get home, and do not neglect the school part. If you fall behind, you will waste your money. Take it from me, I have several degrees in Wildlife and all my friends do. There are a lot of other degrees that are harder than Wildlife. If all those game wardens can pass, so can you; cause they aren't always the brightest stars in the sky. JMO!

Here is the test they give in Mt.to become one and you pass if all three are yes. Were you beat upbuy girls all 12 years of school. Do you have little man syndrom. Are you an a-- hole. Remember you don't have to be like this and you can still be a good warden. Andy
