double the wisconsin bears
Just read an article in the journal that the latest bear study showed that there is double the amount of bears in wisconsin then the dnr had figured! which would now put us at a health 26000 no surprise i think anyone running dogs in northeastern wis could have told them that years ago!

Cooperative study suggests Wisconsin’s black bear population is larger than thought
MADISON – Preliminary results of a two-year cooperative study of Wisconsin black bears suggest that the population may be two times or more larger than currently thought. Biologists stress that the new estimate comes from a half finished study and may change when data from the second year of the study are analyzed. Early results are encouraging, however, and indicate Wisconsin continues to provide quality habitat for large mammals like bears.
i hope they are smart about how they do this. i can just see them giving out all these tags and really hurting the population. i am in favor of more tags but not all at once. they need to gradually lower the amount of points it takes to draw a tag. if i read the whole article right it put the estimated population at 13,000 with this new method of estimating.

Yeah, the 13000 was the number before the study.

unfortuneately with the way our dnr works theyll give them all out in one year and f*&^ everything up.. my opinion once they have all the results will still be more then 26000 animals..
