wild life box antennae issues

I have a wildlife trx 64 blue box. It picks of the same signal with or without my antennae hooked up to it. No strength what so ever, basically have to be within a 50 feet or so of the box. Has anyone had this issue and fixed it. I have never opened up the box I would like to assume that it is some copper or aluminum wire that has broke inside the box that I could simply soder myself. I don't want to pay the labor fees for something that might get fixed in 8 minutes or so, and have the box be gone for a couple weeks.
